Sue Lovegrove - The Book of Trees
Tasmanian artist Sue Lovegrove’s sublime new exhibition The Book of Trees brings together the tradition of 11th century Persian manuscript illumination with documentary style portraits of trees. Sue has chosen mostly old, dead or disregarded trees that, in her mind, have significant cultural and environmental heritage such as Pencil Pines, River Red Gums and other trees from Sue’s own property in Tasmania. Through these exquisitely and elaborately rendered compositions, she celebrates the beauty of Persian art as well as the aesthetic and sculptural form of the tree.
Sue’s work is represented in collections across Australia including the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Parliament House, Artbank and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
