Canberra has a picturesque direct rail service from Sydney and a combined rail and bus service from Melbourne.
The train departs Sydney Central Station and travels to Canberra via the Southern Highlands, Goulburn and Bungendore. The trip to Canberra Railway Station takes a leisurely four and a half hours.

Getting around Canberra from the train
The Canberra train station is situated in Kingston and ACTION bus routes 251, 252, 255 and 259 provide bus access to and from trains. Taxis are also available and a ride into the city is around $30 one way.* Canberra also has regulated and legal ride sharing services on offer from companies like Uber.

There is no direct Canberra to Melbourne rail service. This service runs to Albury by train and will then transfer you to Canberra by bus. Alternately, catch the Melbourne to Sydney train and transfer to Canberra from Goulburn railway station.
