The world's best barista is from Australia's capital city
If you want to taste a killer coffee, head to Canberra – where you can feed your caffeine addiction with a world beating brew in the hometown of the current World Champion Barista.
The premier international coffee competition focuses on promoting excellence in coffee, with competitors preparing four espressos, four cappuccinos and four original signature drinks to exacting standards in just 15 minutes.
Sestic beat barista representatives from the USA, Canada, Hong Kong, United Kingdom and France to take out the title and his secret weapon was a dash of Canberra District winemaker Tim Kirk’s Clonakilla shiraz viognier.
ONA Coffee - a cornerstone of Canberra's coffee culture
ONA Coffee has a roastery and cafe in Fyshwick (ONA Coffee House) and ONA on The Lawns in Manuka and distributes coffee to numerous coffee shops and restaurants in Canberra.
The founder and director of ONA Coffee is also a partner in the popular Canberra city cafe The Cupping Room which continues to receive rave reviews for both its coffee and food. Serious coffee fans can enjoy a cupping experience to taste and judge the various blends of coffee on offer, guided by the knowledgeable staff.
Sestic – an Olympic handball champion in a former life – takes his coffee seriously, with his website detailing the different blends of coffee available, right down to the location of farms and the names of the farm owners. This passion led him to start Project Origin, ONA Coffee’s green-bean trading organisation through which they buy premium quality direct from the producer, while establishing a lasting relationship with the farm.
The prestigious title it is a reflection of the exciting coffee scene that’s brewing in Australia’s capital, led by passionate people like Sestic. Find out more about ONA Coffee story through their website and social media and be inspired by other Canberra coffee roasters and cafes, equally as dedicated and passionate as our resident World Barista Champion Sasa Sestic.
