The Canberra Christmas Tree is lighting up Canberra throughout the festive season and will be a major focal point at this year’s concert. The Christmas in the City concert will feature Aussie rock legend Shannon Noll, along with a number of other exciting acts, on 16 December.
The concert coincides with the opening night of the Burgers, BBQ & Beers Markets – the first of four food themed markets to be held across December 16-24. The markets will include a number of Canberra foodie favourites such as Grease Monkey burgers, American styled BBQ from Soul Cartel and a special edition Christmas beer from Bentspoke Brewery.
With more than 80 different local providers taking part, the Christmas Food Markets are part of a brand new series of entertainment introduced to the annual celebrations and will raise vital funds for Red Nose. Other market themes include Street Food Markets, Cocktails & Canapes Markets and Canberra’s inaugural Sweet Tooth Dessert Markets.
The food markets will also feature an awesome entertainment line-up of live music, photos with Santa, a petting zoo, an ice cream eating competition and dog races.
Next to the food markets, along Ainslie Place, will be the inaugural Christmas Handcrafted Gifts and Arts Markets, offering a variety of unique local stallholders under a canopy of fairy lights.
Once Canberra’s Christmas celebrations come to an end, get ready to ring in 2017 in style with a fantastic line-up of free entertainment including two live music celebrations and state of the art fireworks this New Year’s Eve.
The city comes alive on New Year’s Eve with an all-ages concert in Civic Square, while Garema Place ends the year with bass beats and high-energy dancing.
Kick start your evening in Civic Square with music from local Canberra collective, the Brass Knuckle Brass Band. Potbelleez will also heat up the stage, performing energetic sets which will get your body moving to beats like ‘Don’t Hold Back’ and ‘Are You With Me’ that have become top anthems across Australia and overseas. Nostalgia and Heuristic will also feature, making sure there’s no stopping the celebrations.
Over at Bass in the Place, from 9pm, the likes of young Brisbane duo Odd Mob, local act BNDR and Canberra club regulars Exposure and Tyson will take to the stage.
Framed by the glittering cityscape, enjoy two world-class fireworks displays from the best view in Civic. The first fireworks at 9pm allow the littlest spectators a chance to see state-of-the-art pyrotechnics. Then at the stroke of midnight you can celebrate the New Year with another truly spectacular display.
