Pack your weekend full of adventure

Get ready for an adventurous break in Canberra that mixes adrenalin, nightlife and brilliant brews.

Canberra serves up the goods for travellers looking to escape for the weekend and try something new.

  1. Saturday

    8am: Cycling

First up, head to Stromlo Forest Park for a world-class adrenalin hit. The numerous bike trails are designed for a variety of skill levels and will satisfy even the most seasoned cycling enthusiast. For serious mountain biking thrills, take on the double black diamond Blood Rock and Cardiac Arrest trails.

Download a map online before you head out, and take your own equipment – including bike, helmet and other protective wear.

  2. 1pm: Beer and whisky tour

Time to check out Canberra’s craft beers and whiskeys with a Local Spirit guided tour. Curated to show you some of the region’s award-winning brews, the Beer and Whiskey Boilermaker Tour will transport you first to BentSpoke Brewing Co. in Braddon where you’ll get to taste four ales. Then onto Baldwin Distilling Company for a look at their fermentation process and a drop of whiskey or moonshine.

Next, your crew will visit the impressive Capital Brewing Co. for the grand tour and a flavoursome BrodBurger from the red caravan. You’ll be dropped back to the city about 6pm.

  3. 8pm: Dinner with attitude

Lazy-Su in Braddon is packed with flavours and attitude, so get amongst it. Order a banquet to taste a fusion of Asian eats – inspired by Asian eating houses and hawker vendors. If you need a recharge, order Su’s special espresso martini, Express Yo_Self.

  4. Later: Chill out

Two doors up, grab a stool at Hopscotch for some night-time tunes, an extensive beverage list, and a regular crowd of locals.

Debacle is a long-term Lonsdale Street fixture, serving up ales, wine and pizza with a great relaxed vibe, while Knightsbridge Penthouse is a great place for music and martinis in the heart of Braddon.

  5. Sunday

    8am: Tee-off

Embrace the early start with 18 holes at Capital Golf Club in Narrabundah. Test your skills on the pine tree lined fairways or have a practice on the two-storey driving range. Book online or phone 02 6295 9093 to reserve your preferred tee time.

  6. 1pm: Easy lunch

Head to Hale + Mary in Kingston for a casual sports bar experience with hearty food and an impressive drinks menu.

  7. 2.30pm: Climb time

If you have any energy left, be sure to try BlocHaus Bouldering with its 600 square metres of colourful climbing surface challenging you to climb without ropes or harnesses. Different routes are set for all levels of fitness and there’s padding below in case you lose your grip.
