Here’s five reasons why you don’t want to miss this year’s Canberra Nara Candle Festival.

1. Capture a picture perfect moment

Is there anything more beautiful than 3,000 candles shimmering as the sun sets? To celebrate the peace and goodwill between Canberra and our sister city Nara, Japan, the beautiful Nara Peace Park will be bathed in candlelight at dusk. It won’t be hard to take capture beautiful images of this enchanting lighting display.

2. Feast on delicious delicacies

Sharing food is at the heart of Japanese culture. Tantalise your tastebuds as you tuck into authentic Japanese eats at the Canberra Nara Candle Festival. Spices and scents from around the world will waft through this festival, as Canberra also celebrates its multicultural community with a wide range of food vendors. Rotary will also be serving Capital Brewing Co. beverages, and a special Nara-inspired desert.

3. Be absorbed by ancient arts and performances

Try your hand at calligraphy or enjoy a martial arts demonstration. Learn the art of origami or master traditional drumming techniques. Enjoy a traditional tea ceremony, or join in furoshiki workshops. Did we mention it’s all free?

4. Be mesmerised by a range of musical performances

The air will fill with music as Canberra celebrates its sister city relationship with Nara, Japan. Dramatic drumming performances are sure to inspire before traditional Japanese instruments take to the stage alongside a didgeridoo blending cultures through magical melodies.

The Canberra Nara Candle Festival will run Saturday 26 October from 4pm to 9pm at Nara Peace Park & Lennox Gardens, Yarralumla. Entry is free.
