Adaptation

Local artist Sian Watson presents a collection of figurative sculptural works that explores our shared vulnerability with nature in this shifting landscape. This investigation highlights environmental and social change and adaptation, and the moral roles that humans and animals might play in times to come. Through the fusion of humans and animals she creates works that question these relationships and understandings and invites the viewer to create their own imaginative conclusions.

This futuristic analysis draws strongly from prehistoric artist depictions to create contemporary sculptural works. Synthetic materials such as cementitious grout and metal are used to create earthy textures and forms that reflect the visceral nature of our environment. Through a mixture of gallery and studio space, viewers will be able to experience completed sculptural works as well as visually participate in Watson’s idea development. Over a six-week period, Watson will make new works within Belconnen Arts Centre, transforming the Generator Gallery space into her own studio. Exploration of figure, gesture and scale will be on display with viewers invited to ask questions and interact with the artist.
