Away by Michael Gow
Overview
In this classic Australian story of found family and connection, three families set out on their own holidays before a storm brings them together on a Gold Coast beach to grieve, heal, and find hope for the future.
In the Summer of 1967 it’s time for the great Australian coastal escape. Three families travel to different Gold Coast locations. School principal Roy and his wife Coral stay in a grand hotel while still mourning the death of their son in the war. Gwen, Jim, and their increasingly independent daughter Meg stay in the local caravan park where tensions begin to fray. English immigrants Harry and Vic strive to create happy memories with their son Tom while camping on the beach. Stormy weather, secrets, and classic texts combine to unite these families in their seasons of change.
