Overview

For a reminder of the important things in life, try this rustic getaway, high in the Australian Alps in Kosciuszko National Park, near Adaminaby. The Pines Cottage is part of a historic complex of buildings that include Currango Homestead and Daffodil Cottage, dating back to the late 1880s. Originally built to provide accommodation for stockmen, it's perfect for large groups.

Once you've unloaded the car, breathe in that clean, crisp mountain air and take in the sweeping plains under the curious gaze of kangaroos grazing on the lawn. From here, you can explore the high country with a wide range of activities that include walking, horse riding, mountain biking and fishing.

When the sun sinks and the night fills with stars, it's time to head indoors, stoke up the wood stove, and cook up a feast fit for a stockman. Settle in for a night of wine and song around the big open fire.
