Humble House gallery
Overview
Humble House gallery is a must-see destination for lovers of authentic oriental antiques and contemporary art. Humble House spans two levels with over 600 square metres of display space.
A showroom is on the ground floor that includes two rooms for art exhibitions. Antique furniture is integrated with the art creating settings so you can appreciate the creative aesthetic of old and new together.
Upstairs houses a museum of 18th to early 20th century Chinese antique furniture, the only one of its type in Australia. The date-marked pieces are a timeline of the history and evolution of Chinese furniture. Cabinetmakers
admire the furniture specially prepared to reveal the intricate handmade joinery highlighting the skill of traditional craftsmen.
Next to the museum is the upper level art gallery. Exhibitions in the showroom and upper level galleries change on a regular basis showcasing the rich diversity of talent by established and emerging artists from Canberra, interstate and overseas.
Individual and group bookings are available for museum tours and talks about Chinese furniture including its
fascinating symbolism and influence on western furniture. Humble House is located off the street where there is ample free parking.
