Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial
Overview
As the centre for national commemoration, the Australian War Memorial is expanding its galleries as part of a major Development Project to tell contemporary stories of Australian service and sacrifice.
All visitors require a free-timed ticket to enter the Memorial Galleries and attend the Last Post Ceremony. Visitors should book their free tickets in advance to guarantee entry.
Last Post Ceremony tickets are a one-hour ticket and includes access to the Roll of Honour and Hall of Memory.
The Memorial farewells visitors with its moving Last Post Ceremony in the Commemorative Courtyard.
The ceremony begins with the Australian national anthem followed by the piper's lament. Visitors are invited to lay wreaths and floral tributes beside the Pool of Reflection.
Each night the ceremony shares the story behind one of the names on the Roll of Honour, and the Ode is recited by Australian Defence Force personnel.
The ceremony ends with the sounding of the Last Post. From February to November the Last Post Ceremony includes Australia's Federation Guard (on the first and third Wednesday of each month).
All of the daily Last Post Ceremonies are streamed live on the Australian War Memorial YouTube channel.
