Overview

Djinindira means "sparkling ray of light" in the Ngunnawal language. It is the true name of Ginninderra – a place of deep cultural significance to the Ngunnawal people. For thousands of years, ancestors have cared for this Country – the creek, the falls, the land – and passed down its stories since the first sunrise.

This work reflects the moment when Bagariin (the sun) touches Nadjung (the water), creating Djinindira – light that dances across the surface, alive with meaning. It is a reminder that Country is always speaking, if you take the time to see and listen.

Through this exhibition, viewers are invited to see through the eyes of a Ngunnawal artist and Traditional Owner – to walk gently with the light, the water and the stories. Patterns and forms echo riverlines, pathways, and shimmering reflections, capturing the spirit of a place still rich with presence.

Djinindira carries the strength of story, language and place – a clear sign that Ngunnawal Country remains and your connection to it is unbroken.

Opening night is at 6pm Friday 11 July 2025.
