Overview
Rowena Evans is an Emerging Artist Support Scheme (EASS) Award Recipient.
Around the Shimmering Lake is supported by Belco Arts and Megalo Print Studio through the ACT Government and Australian National University Emerging Artist Support Scheme. Rowena is using this opportunity to develop ideas coming from investigating and sharing a place; its sounds, sights, ambiences, impressions, presences – in order to invite viewers to experience that place with Rowena through her artwork.
The site of Rowena Evans' investigations for Around the Shimmering Lake is the shore and parkland surrounding Lake Ginninderra. Evans says this is a fascinating area bordering the glittering jewel of the lake, contained by the suburban and urban settings of Belconnen. Her research involves walking the lakeshore. She observes, listens, draws and collects, thinking about ideas from sources such as maps, graphic notation of music, typography and psychogeography.
Her approach also considers the relationships between theories and ideas, observations, investigations, enticements such as distant hills and the physical satisfaction of making art, as well as carefully using some materials from sites to link artwork to these places. This raw material, both visible and invisible, feeds the content of the prints and other items presented here.
