Next on 2 Dec 2025 from 5:30pm to 6:45pmSpeakers’ Corner – Community archives and the arts
Overview
Community archives stand apart from government or institutional archives because they are initiated and driven by the communities themselves, deciding what to preserve and how.
In this session, you'll explore the ways communities take charge of their own histories, shaping decisions about what to keep and how to present it.
Hear from local artists Dr Martyn Jolly and Dr Louise Curham as they share insights into community archival practices in the ACT.
Dr Martyn Jolly will speak about his work creating Canberra's 2003 bushfire memorial from community photographs.
Dr Louise Curham will discuss her award-winning project, Kambah Turns 50, marking the suburb's anniversary and local memory-keeping.
Don't iss this opportunity for an engaging evening of reflection and discussion about the intersection of art and archives in telling community stories.
