Updated 26 Mar 2024
Need from fresh ideas to keep the kids -and yourself- entertained during the cooler months?
On a trip to Canberra during the winter, after you've enjoyed exploring the outdoor delights of the capital city, you might want to turn indoors to keep the kids moving. Luckily, we've found seven activities that are fun, family-friendly, and (most importantly) warm. Check out these must-do's and don't forget to book in advance!
POWER KART RACEWAY
There’s a whole lot more than go-karts at Power Kart Raceway (although adrenaline junkies will love the racing experience featuring electric go-karts on a Formula One-style indoor circuit).
You’ll also find an indoor glow-in-the-dark mini-golf course, synthetic ice-skating rink, and arcade machines—the perfect destination for those who live life in the fun lane.
QUIZZIC ALLEY
Take your little wizard to Canberra’s very own Harry Potter-themed shop for some major brownie points as they have a blast shopping magically themed merchandise.
For something more hands-on, there are also plenty of classes and workshops throughout the year at Quizzic Alley, from wand-making to potions classes (where they’ll get to walk in the footsteps of their favourite witches and wizards).
MUSEUM OF AUSTRALIAN DEMOCRACY
Have some little ones you need to keep entertained? With free entry, you’ll get plenty of bang for your buck at the gorgeous play space within the Museum of Australian Democracy. With a special “Kindness Café” for kids, listening pods, storytime, and facilitated craft sessions, PlayUP encourages thoughtful, imaginative play and will keep them busy for hours while you explore the museum.
QUESTACON
With more than 200 interactive exhibits, Questacon has something to engage and excite people of all ages. Aspiring scientists can be shaken by an earthquake, witness a lightning strike, or lie back and stare up at the moon.
Leave time to catch the entertaining science shows—they’re entertaining and educational for both little kids and big kids.
BOUNCE
Want to live out your Ninja Warrior fantasies? From free jump trampolines to dodgeball, wall climb, X-Park ninja course, cliff jump, and even a dedicated miniBOUNCE Zone for junior jumpers, at BOUNCE the whole family can bounce, flip and hurl themselves into the air at their heart’s content.
OLD BUS DEPOT MARKETS
Not your average market, every Sunday you’ll find more than 200 stalls of exceptional quality featuring items hand-crafted by local and regional creatives—clothing, jewellery, art, and more- at the Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston. While you're there, be sure to explore the foreshore and other captivating corners within the National Triangle.
