It’s not hard to throw a love heart Canberra’s way when it comes to the stunning images 2023 saw posted on Instagram about the nation’s capital.
The official Instagram account for Canberra (@visitcanberra) continues to spread the word about the capital city and its beauty, as 17,000 new followers have joined in over the past 12 months to enjoy the view. Year after year, images of the outdoor and nature-based activities in Canberra have continued to be the most liked posts on VisitCanberra’s social media channels, and 2023 was no different.
Autumn beauty in Canberra

Whether snapped at the National Arboretum Canberra or in one of Canberra’s many beautiful, tree-lined streets – the stunning colours of Canberra’s autumn landscapes garnered nearly 3,500 likes. The post was seen over 45,000 times, received 296 shares and over 100 saves.

Runners up next on the list won’t surprise any Canberran, with a spectacular sunset and a moody sunrise taking 2nd and 3rd place for total likes. With 2,352 likes, local photographer @wanderlust73 captured a stunning sunset over Lake Burley Griffin. While @bentellier_ woke early to photograph Canberra’s most iconic view, looking down Anzac Parade, across to the National Triangle from the Mount Ainslie Lookout.
Walking in a winter wonderland

As one of the few cities in Australia to have four distinct seasons, Canberra definitely puts on a show as the colours change throughout the year. When the frost arrived this year, @laurenlsutton ventured out to Namadgi National Park to capture a winter wonderland.
