Neighbourhoods to Know: Fyshwick, Pialligo & Majura

Updated 24 Apr 2025

Maximise your chances of pleasing everyone with our round-up of the ideal spots to visit in Fyshwick, Pialligo and Majura.

Escape to the country in a tick over 15 minutes. You’ll find truffle farms and wineries as well as fun for kids along the way.

Start at Fyshwick, an industrial-zone-turned-hipster-hangout on Canberra’s green fringe where you can eat brekkie and fill your picnic basket at the Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets. It’s open from 7am, Thursday to Sunday.

Not far away, at the design-forward Dairy Road, you can take a casual yoga class at Kind. Of course, no judgement if you swap yoga for noodles at Canteen or an indulgent lunch at winery Contentious Character followed by a gin-sipping tour at Big River Distilling Co. Or for a fine-art fix, head to Grainger Gallery.

Lonsdale Street Roasters has also set up shop at the Dairy Road precinct – swing by to get your infrared-roasted single-origin beans direct from the source. Vintage style more your thing? A short drive gets you to Dirty Janes Canberra, where you’ll find all things old and covetable from some 90 sellers, or make your way to Designer Op Shop Emporium, a consignment-fashion hotspot with an onsite café.

A five-minute drive north brings you to semi-rural paddocks. Order scones with jam at the pretty Kitchen Garden at Rodney’s café or go for boulangère potatoes with poached eggs at The Pialligo Bakesmith.

In Majura, go hunting for prized black fungi at The Truffle Farm in winter. Afternoons don’t get better than sundowners with a glass of The Silurian Sparkling while overlooking the hills at Mount Majura Vineyard. Book a tasting flight to take a tour of the terroir.
